Prayers before the sacrament: quantity or quality?

Prayer before the sacrament. Where to find? When to deduct: in the evening or in the morning? Should children read the prayer rule for "adults"? Who decides the sufficiency of readable prayers to prepare to participate in the sacrament?

Prayers to prepare for this important sacrament can be found in almost any Orthodox prayer book, with the exception of publications for children. The rule of our day has been the reading of the Succession to Holy Communion, which includes:

- Canon to Holy Communion;

- prayers to Holy Communion (can be read in the morning).

In addition, it has become a tradition, but not a duty, to read before this three more canons: a penitent to our Lord Jesus Christ, a prayer to the Most Holy Mother of God and a guardian angel. They are read on the eve of communion, after the evening service. For forty days after Easter, the canon of Holy Pascha is usually read instead.
It is up to the person who knows the person confessor or the priest who confesses and gives the blessing to take communion.
A canon to Holy Communion andprayers before communionare generally required. But even from this rule there are often exceptions: if a child or an adult who is a novice in the Church is preparing for the sacrament, an experienced confessor reduces the training requirements to just a few simple prayers. And then, most likely, by the prayer book with a translation into Russian and with explanations. The determining factor here is not the age of the person praying, but his knowledge of the Orthodox faith, the degree of churchedness and spiritual prayer experience.
Prayer before the sacramentIt should not be done in a distracted manner, stubborn “reading”, but so as to acquire the readiness of the soul to meet with Christ. It is better to pray less, but with a genuine hunt, with humility and reverence. The Lord does not look at the duration of the prayer, but at the location of the heart.
