Baptism - time for divination or prayer?
The period from Christmas to Epiphany - Christmas time is the time for active religious life. Believers devote him to prayer, attend worship services, and communicate with relatives. But such conscious believers are relatively few.
Christmas time: time for prayer or divination?
How do unchurched people spend this time, especially young people? In constant entertainment and fun companies. In addition, during the Christmas time, another “important element” is added - divination for baptism.
Remember, like V. Zhukovsky:Once on the Epiphany evening
For the gate shoe,
Taking off their feet, throwing ...
Although these lines from the ballad "Svetlana" were written back in 1811, for more than 200 years nothing fundamentally changed.
Modern girls today use various methods to find out their “fate”. They not only give up shoes, but also write notes with male names, guess on cards, bread, water, salt ... Many people perceive Christmas sacrifices as a kind of fun, an opportunity to have fun and find out their “fate”.
But in reality, behind all these seemingly innocent actions, it’s not so much the opportunity to know the future and have fun, but to give up free will, shifting responsibility from yourself to the action of dark forces.
From divination to baptism to the story of "the spirit of Gogol"
So it turns out: if a person refuses the will of God and seeks another way, then he falls on a demonic hook. After all, from whom do fortune tellers have knowledge if not from God?
Deacon Vladimir Vasilik replies:The soothsayers heed the seducing spirits, the spirits of anger under heaven, ultimately - their master, the Father of lies, or more simply - the Chief scammer, whose whole pleasure is to deceive, destroy, kill
An example of how demons manipulated people who came into contact with them, says Tikhon Shevkunov.
In the best-selling book, “The Unholy Saints,” he describes an episode from student life.
Together with his comrades, the future ruler studied at the Institute of Cinematography. From a teacher on the history of foreign art, students learned about many years of research into spiritualism. This is not a primitive level of divination for Baptism, but direct communication with demons.
At some point, the students decided to call the “spirit” themselves. The voice was presented in different ways: either Socrates, then Napoleon, or Stalin. He unmistakably answered questions in the style of “Who will rule the country further?”, “With whom does a fellow student Sasha walk?” And so on.
Everything looked quite funny, until the “spirit of Gogol” appeared to the students. Nikolai Vasilyevich looked so unhappy that the guys decided to help him somehow. But how? The spirit said that for this they need to drink poison ...
Only then did the students realize who they came into contact with. The next morning they all went to the temple.
It is good that in this story everything ended without a fatal outcome. And how many examples of ruined families, devastated lives and suicide can be found? And a lot of them started from cheerful curiosity, a desire to look into the future.
The future depends on God and our free will.
But can they tell our "fate" of a witch, cards or fortune-telling for baptism?
In fact, only God can know what awaits us in the future. Yes, and this “knowledge” is perceived not as a set of predeterminations, but as something that a person can influence with his own choice.
For example, some man chooses whether to drink a glass of vodka to the company. If he agreed once, then he would most likely agree in the second. The second can be followed by the third.A person may not even realize how it will already become addicted.
If he had rejected even the prospect of a drink, his life would have been different.
The demons probably do not know what awaits a man in a year, five, ten ... But they are very experienced tempters. therefore, evil spirits can “guess” what will happen tomorrow, the day after tomorrow, in a year and transfer this knowledge to “those who are interested”. But for a harmless divination to baptism, as well as for any communication with demons, a person will have to pay. How? One of the most common options is madness.
How not to fall for these tricks, many saints say. And St. John Chrysostom warns:Do not voluntarily resort to fortunetellers, but if you are attracted to this by others, and then do not agree ... A person always wants to know the invisible, especially wants to know about his misfortunes in advance, so that, as a result of surprise, do not fall into confusion ... But if you listen fortune-telling, you will not be worthy of the favor and mercy of God, and by this prepare for yourself many calamities
